POWER UP JAZZ

Funding Need: $7,986

What happens to Jazz when the power goes out? You can’t listen to it on 88.9 FM WDNA! What happened to my Reggae? Why can’t I hear Café Brasil? People call us wondering what’s going on. We’ve all been through it—hurricanes and unexplained FPL outages. When these power interruptions occur, WDNA goes off the air, but this project will ensure that the community continues to enjoy the WDNA programs when FPL does not cooperate. A generator will make it possible to keep WDNA on-the-air with uninterrupted cultural offerings. This project, with the inclusion of a kitchen/lounge area for employees, visitors, and caterers, will complete the facility improvements to WDNA. For the installation of a large generator to power the WDNA studios and the rest, we need:

Electrical for generator and slab: $4,469

Gas installation: $1,990

Cabinets: $1,527

JAZZ IN FILM

Funding Need: $8,887

A Great Day in Harlem, Let’s Get Lost: Portrait of Chet Baker, Sun Ra: A Joyful Noise—these are some of the films that WDNA has screened over the years in its Miami Jazz Film Festival. Films like these and new documentaries in Jazz and World Music will be screened again in the WDNA JAZZ GALLERY when this project is completed. The WDNA JAZZ GALLERY will be an intimate place to gather to enjoy and discuss the world of music in film, a place that already enjoys the exhibit of visual art and the presentation of music concerts. The art will come down and the wall will become a screen. The film screenings will be free to WDNA members and students under 18. To complete this project we need:

Cinema screening equipment: $4,115

Gallery acoustic treatments: $3,254

Screening booth equipment: $1,518
